THE CLOISTERS

The base of operations for the Esquires is a relatively large collection of cloisters with an iron spire at its center. (The term “relatively” is used here because any finite space is quaint when compared to the multiple sets of infinity that are housed within the Dreamverse. Much in the same way that you can have a nice apartment that you enjoy, but the second you purchase a home you realize you’ve lived in glorified hovels).

The iron spire at the the center of the Cloisters is the Citadel. The spire is similar to a grove of similar structures that surround it, collectively called The Nails. The Citadel has been reshaped. No easy task considering the raw iron makes it naturally resistant to lucidity and other forms of magic. But entirely necessary when you’re looking to house a group of reality warpers under one roof. As a result, the Citadel is now spacially asymmetrical. The spires thousand foot exterior, while large, doesn’t equate to the infinite amount of space it contains. It is filled with rooms, vistas, and planes, created by a multitude of Lucid’s and Esquires over a fair sliver of time. Meaning it is entirely possible, plausible, and highly probable to become literally lost within its interior. That is a happy accident as it acts as a great defensive system for guarding and hiding the most important chamber within the Citadel. The chamber that contains the Oneiro.

The Cloisters themselves are composed of interlinking and interweaving stacked walkways. Each one of these walkways is themed around a geometric shape to help with navigating the grounds.

Even though the cloisters aren't infinitely large, that doesn’t mean they aren’t expansive. Because of this new slag tend to shirk using the walkways, opting instead for zipping around through the air or shadow stepping / shinko walking along the grounds. Which is understandable. When you suddenly find yourself having powers that give you new modes of movement you do what comes natural. You abuse them. The more indoctrinated Esquires and Lucid’s learn that using the pedestrian hallways leads you to places that can’t be accessed otherwise.

How were the Cloisters formed? Who made them? Was the shore of Somnus always where it is now, this close to the Green? No one knows these answers. Or rather, someone definitively does but doesn’t believe the information is worth divulging because either they don’t give enough of a shit to do so, or they find it useful and/or interesting that everyone else has no clue. So the majority of people are left to speculate, walking around with varying levels of certainty that they have the proper source or enough intellect to know the “real” reason. In other words, the information is in a quantum state of accuracy, like most information in the universe is. True answers? They’re tough to come by. Just because you are reading a wiki about a particular subject doesn’t mean you get to avoid this little annoying fact of life.
